Who we are
This survey is being conducted by the developers of stdlib, an open source library for scientific computation written in JavaScript and C and designed for execution in both web browsers and server-side environments, such as Node.js and Deno. stdlib aims to be the fundamental library for scientific computation on the web, serving a role similar to that of NumPy and SciPy in the Python ecosystem by providing foundational data structures and algorithms for array-based computation.

How we will use survey results
Our reasons for running this survey are twofold:
- To gather insight into emerging use cases and needs.
- To better understand pain points and current gaps.
From our learnings, we will use survey results to
- Inform stdlib development and prioritization.
- Advocate for technical specifications at the Standards level (e.g., W3C and TC39) to ensure that Web Standards, such as those underpinning WebAssembly, JavaScript, Node.js, and other associated browser technologies, are meeting the demands of scientific computing practitioners.
- Publish a whitepaper providing a high-level overview of the web-based scientific computing ecosystem.
Unless you choose to explicitly provide your e-mail address, your responses to this survey will remain anonymous. If you choose to provide your e-mail address, we will not share your identity or make public your responses without express written consent.
All publicly shared survey results will be aggregated and anonymized.
